La Lumiere School Graduate Lucas Tang Awarded Wells Scholarship

Lucas-Tang-Wells-ScholarshipLa Lumiere School is thrilled to announce Lucas Tang was awarded the prestigious Indiana University Wells Scholarship. In addition, Tang received La Lumiere’s Stellar Academic Performance Award for earning the highest grade point average in the 2013 class. He was active in Science Olympiad and was a four year letter winner in tennis and baseball.

Based solely on merit, the Wells Scholarship provides full tuition, mandatory and course-related fees, and a living stipend for four years of undergraduate study on the Bloomington campus of Indiana University. Scholars may choose to spend one of these years studying abroad through the university's overseas study programs. The Wells Scholars Program emphasizes close interaction with faculty; academic and career mentoring; opportunities for internships, research, and community service; a year-long freshman seminar; and frequent contact with distinguished visitors. Between 18 and 22 incoming freshmen receive the award each year. During their years at IU, Wells Scholars may apply to receive a one-time grant of $1,750 to pursue summer experiences that provide meaningful learning opportunities beyond the normal academic year.

Wells Scholars demonstrate exceptional qualities of character and leadership, have been significantly involved in extracurricular activities, have demonstrated a concern for their community, and have excelled in terms of class rank, grade point average, and performance on standardized tests.

In 2010 Tang participated in the Jim Holland Summer Enrichment Program at Indiana University and in the summer of 2012 he interned at the University of Notre Dame’s QuarkNet where he participated in hands-on research projects ranging from cosmic ray detection to programming in digital visualization 3D software.
