La Lumiere School Begins 50th Anniversary School Year with Record Enrollment and Accomplished New Faculty

New-Staff-2013La Lumiere School began its 50th Anniversary year Sunday, August 11 with 216 students, the largest opening day enrollment in school history. The student body is comprised of a diverse group of day and boarding students. Day students come from as far east as South Haven, MI, and as far west as Schererville. Boarding students choose La Lumiere from 10 countries and eight states. Countries represented among the current student body include Brazil, Canada, China, Columbia, Denmark, Egypt, Grand Bahamas, Japan, Korea and Panama. States represented include Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, New Mexico, Texas and Wisconsin.

La Lumiere School is pleased to announce the further development of the School’s academic Areas of Excellence, as well as new program offerings for the 2013-2014 school year and beyond. The Areas of Excellence strategy provides an intensive educational experience for our students in critical subjects. Among the first academic Areas of Excellence are 21st Century Math & Science and Global Studies. La Lumiere’s recent efforts to develop Areas of Excellence have driven the national and international recruitment and hiring of several new teaching faculty.

Mr. Chris Ciambarella has his Bachelor's from Wake Forest University and two Master's Degrees, one from UC-San Diego, and the second from The Ohio State University. Ciambarella will be Director of the new English Language Institute as well as teach classes in the humanities.

Mr. Will Massey is a graduate of Queen's College in North Carolina where he was a four year member of the soccer team, serving as captain his senior year. He is joining us from Yap High School on the island of Yap in the Federated States of Micronesia. Massey will be teaching Introduction to British Literature.

Mr. Bradley Poore received his BS in Liberal Arts from St. Joseph Seminary College in St. Benedict, Louisiana and MA in Social Communication from Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas, Rome, Italy. Poore studied music at Florida State and is presently enrolled at the University of Notre Dame in a program that leads to a Masters in Sacred Music. Poore will serve as Music Director.

Mr. Scot Purkeypile received his BA from Texas Tech University and his MA from Oklahoma State University and an MFA from Indiana University. Purkeypile is the Director of Drama and will teach introduction to Literature and Composition and Drama.

Ms. Li Chen Tsai studied at ChiLee Institute of Technology and Tzu Chi University before receiving her Master's from the University of Newcastle (Australia). Tsai will teach Chinese.
