La Lumiere School Announces 2016 ISSMA Medal Winners

La-Lumiere-School-Announces-ISSMA-Medal-Winners-2016La Lumiere School’s Concert Choir received a gold medal at the Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) District Solo and Ensemble competition held Saturday, Jan. 30 at Kankakee Valley Middle School in Wheatfield, Indiana. Under the direction of Mr. Brad Poore, Julia Goodman, a junior from La Porte, Indiana; Isaac Houston, a junior from Niles, Michigan; JH Lee, a junior from Seoul, South Korea; Amelia Murphy, a junior from La Porte, Indiana; Emma Patterson, a junior from South Bend, Indiana; Cassidy Rehrer, a sophomore from South Bend, Indiana; Nick Rogers, a sophomore from La Porte, Indiana; and Stephanie Zaccone, a junior from Michigan City, Indiana sang Fa Una Canzona by Orazio Vecci. This honor qualifies the choir for state competition on Saturday, Feb. 20 in Indianapolis.

In addition to the School’s choir ensemble, Savannah Starr of Michigan City, Indiana and Emma Patterson of South Bend, Indiana made solo performances. Starr earned a silver medal for her piano solo of Arabesque No. 1 by Debussy, and Patterson earned two silver medals: one for her piano solo of Po lonaise in G-Minor by Chopin, and another for her vocal solo performance of Dream Valley, a poem by William Blake set to music and composed by Roger Quilter.

La Lumiere School Music Director, Brad Poore said, “Our Concert Choir students receive personalized training to become strong choral singers. It’s a great feeling of satisfaction to watch them grow and develop over the years to the point where they can sing an Italian madrigal like Fa Una Canzona as well as they did for the ISSMA district madrigal event.”
