The Carpenters Local 1005, 599, and 1485 and Millwrights 1076 have invited all elementary schools in Lake, La Porte, and Porter to participate in the Kids Caring for the Community project.
The Student Council members of Kingsbury Elementary School organized a food drive to help the community of LaPorte. The students collected many items for the Salvation Army’s kitchen and also a monetary donation.
The Student Council at Kingsbury is a group of 5th grade students who were elected by their classmates to represent all Kingsbury students. The Student Council participates in many community activities and does a “Kingsbury Cares” day once a month. Students at the school may make a donation for the charity/organization chosen. The Student Council members vote on which charities/organizations to assist for the school year.
Students were presented a check for $750.00 from the Carpenters and Millwrights unions. The money awarded will be used to give all Kingsbury students a dog tag inscribed, “Kingsbury Cares”, and the Student Council will also open a “school store” to sell pencils, dry erase markers, erasers, folders, bookmarks, and other school supplies to our students on Fridays.
Mrs. Kimberly Glenn, the Student Council sponsor has led our students in community activities and assistance for many years. Thank you to Mrs. Glenn for leading this group of giving, kind, caring students. Our community should be proud of the students and staff for reaching out to the community to give support where it is needed!
