LCA is proud to participate as a venue in the 3rd Annual Coastline Children’s Film Festival's ten days of award-winning features, documentaries, and shorts (along with hands-on workshops) throughout southwest Michigan and northwest Indiana. LCA’s participation in the 3rd Annual Coastline Children’s Film Festival is sponsored by Tri Kappa, Delta Mu chapter.

Girls Rock
Saturday, February 9, 2013: 10:30 am (Central Standard Time)

Girls Rock highlights the experiences of campers, aged eight through 18, at the Portland Rock ‘n’ Roll Camp for girls. During the week long program, campers learn from female rockers, including Carrie Brownstein of Sleater-Kinney, about topics not limited to self-empowerment, self-defense, and anger management.

Short Films from the New York International Children’s Film Festival
Sunday, February 10, 2013: 3 pm (Central Standard Time)

The selection of short films from the New York International Children’s Film Festival is divided into two programs; Best of NYICFF: Kids Flix Mix 2012-13, beginning at 3:00 pm and recommended for children between the ages of four and eight years old, and Best of NYICFF: Party Mix 2012-13, beginning at 4:00 pm and recommended for children between the ages of eight and 18 years old. All films are presented in English or with English subtitles.

Seating is limited. Doors open 30 minutes prior to show time.

Kids Teach Kids

Lu Hook's Crochet Class
Saturday, March 2, 2013
12:30 - 2:30 pm (Central Standard Time)

Crochet is a type of knotting used to create fabric out of yarn. Lu will show you how to crochet a skinny scarf or a bracelet. Using a crochet hook he will teach you the basic stitches. A variety of yarn types and colors will be provided.

Lu Hook, 13 years old, lives on a farm in LaPorte with his family, all who are artists. Lu taught himself how to crochet from a library book and will share some beginning techniques with other kids in LCA’s new Kids Teach Kids series.

Recommended ages: 9-16 years old.

Classes Designed for Kids

Drawing for Young People - Back by Demand!
Ages 8 - 13
Instructor: Valerie Taglieri
6 sessions: Saturdays, 9:30–11 am

This course is for young people who love to draw. Students will learn ways of understanding shape, line and shading that will help them to draw what they see! Participants will experiment with different art materials and draw some of their favorite objects. See an improvement in skill set in 6 weeks.

Intro to Theatre- New!
Ages 7-11
Instructor: Jerry Jascoviak
6 sessions: Mondays, 5:30–6:30 pm
March 4 – April 8, 2013
$50, $45 for members

Students will build their confidence as they learn theater arts, from acting to set design. Young ones will learn the basics of performance, movement, voice, and stage direction through the use of storytelling, small scenes, monologue and mime.

Teen Artists’ Studio- Core Class!
Ages 11 - 17

10 sessions: Tuesdays, 3:30–5:30 pm

Due to her dedicated following, instructor Alison Jaksa, continues her lessons for many past Young Artists’ Studio students who are now teens. New students are also welcome to this challenging art class, where instruction will be given in a variety of artistic concepts, mediums and techniques. Many of the lessons will relate to the exhibitions Lubeznik Center has on display in its galleries.

This creative class will feature art projects in a variety of mediums and techniques. Many of the lessons will relate to the exhibitions Lubeznik Center for the Arts displays in its three galleries. The children will learn art appreciation from experienced art teacher, Alison Jaksa, while they create their own works. Ms. Jaksa has innovative ideas for teaching art and keeping students engaged.
