Jessup Receives 2014 Top State Community Leadership Award

Leadership-LaPorte-CountyAt the recent Indiana Leadership Association (ILA) Conference in Indianapolis local resident, Jim Jessup, received the Marjorie Klinck Award, presented by the ILA to someone who has advanced community leadership principles across the state.

In 1994 the Indiana Leadership Association established The Marjorie Klinck Award to recognize and honor outstanding leadership in and for Indiana communities. Marjorie Woodruff Klinck was the director of Leadership Jackson County from its inception (1983) until her death (1994). Marjorie inspired and helped found the ILA, from the very first gathering to discuss how to spread leadership development throughout the state, to serving as a force on the charter committee that got ILA off and running. Jessup has served as a board member and officer for the organization for many years.

He has been associated with Leadership La Porte County for over 30 years, serving as a founding board member, board member, staff, volunteer, and program facilitator over the history of the organization. He also volunteers as a board member and secretary of the South Shore Leadership Center, facilitates the Leadership Starke County program, and has facilitated other leadership training sessions around the state. His other leadership activities include serving as a board member and executive committee member of the Unity Foundation of La Porte County, the La Porte County Park Foundation, and the Hanna Lions Club.

“There is no higher honor than being recognized by one’s peers and friends for doing things that I love”, Jessup said. “Community leadership training is such a key element in successful communities around the state. It has been a real challenge to get people to actively participate and step into leadership roles at all levels and in each segment of their own community,” he added.

The mission of the Indiana Leadership Association is to facilitate best practices of leadership in and for the good of Indiana communities and Indiana people.
