I am pleased to announce that immediately following the State of the City Address that will be presented to the La Porte City Council on Thursday, I will be introducing the newest Ambassadors of the City of La Porte, Jaidyn and Neilah Maule.
On July 19th around 7:30a.m., Katie Atkins was taking her boyfriend's niece and daughters to their grandmother's house when a man driving an SUV at a high rate of speed crossed the center line and hit them head on. Katie lost her life that fateful Thursday morning and Jaidyn (5) and Neilah (7) were critically injured. Jaidyn suffered numerous broken bones and facial injuries and Neilah suffered a traumatic brain injury, a broken leg and massive jaw injuries.
Doctors said Neilah had little chance of survival, but over and over she has amazed doctors and nurses with her strength. Neilah, Jaidyn and their family have shown amazing strength and spirit as they have fought through recovery efforts and I am proud to call them La Porteans.
In addition, their recovery has truly been a community event as the City has gathered to offer prayers, emotional and financial support as they have continued to defy the odds and bring miracles every day in their recovery.
The State of the City Address and presentation of the newest Ambassadors of the City of La Porte are open to the public.
