Ivy Tech Community College recently announced new program launch with Opportunity Enterprises as the groups unveil new training in light industrial work through OE’s Vocational Training and Empowerment Center (VTEC). The program will create the opportunity for all qualifying individuals to experience a true post-secondary experience. Upon completion, students will receive an Ivy Tech certificate in Basic Production Principles.
Ivy Tech will host Indiana State Lieutenant Governor, Suzanne Crouch as the program is formally unveiled September 28, 2023 at 4pm CT on the Ivy Tech Valparaiso Campus, located at 3100 Ivy Tech Drive, Valparaiso, IN 46383. Event will feature brief keynote remarks, and light refreshments.
The joint partnership results as a culmination of efforts and comes at a time when employers continue struggling to find qualified workers in the industry. To prepare individuals to enter the workforce VTEC incorporates specialized teaching styles which accommodates those with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the fields of electronics recycling and refurbishment, custodial services and light industrial work.
“For us at Ivy Tech, this is an incredible new opportunity. We are thrilled by this new program as it showcases in real time our commitment to fulfilling needs for the communities in which we serve. Ivy Tech is here to help both those seeking work and our local employers throughout Northwest Indiana,” said Campus Chancellor, Aco Sikoski.
The VTEC program will run for twelve weeks beginning in October and teach students advanced job skills in an environment that is inclusive and supportive. Training uses course materials and hands-on skills labs for students to develop the technical, professional and social skills needed for success.
