IU Health Colleague Travis King to Play Piano at First Friday Program

IU-Health-LaPorte-HospitalAn Indiana University Health La Porte Hospital colleague who is completely self-taught on piano will be the featured performer during First Friday in the Chapel at noon, July 3 at the La Porte Hospital Family Chapel, 1007 Lincolnway, La Porte. Travis King, 22, is the son of Steve and Kathy King, and a 2011 graduate of La Porte High School, where he was involved in the Project Search Program. Project Search is a partnership between La Porte High School and IU Health La Porte Hospital in which students with cognitive or developmental challenges are assigned to work in different areas of the hospital to learn job skills. King was diagnosed with autism at age five. He now works in the Food & Nutrition Department at IU Health La Porte Hospital.

At age 18, King began to play the piano, despite never having taken lessons. Instead of reading music, he learns by ear. When he isn’t working, King enjoys playing piano at local nursing homes, and also performs on the first Saturday of every month for the Family Variety Show CMR Band in Lakeville, Ind.

The First Friday in the Chapel series offers outstanding musical performances each month. The program is free, and attendees are welcome to bring a lunch. First Friday in the Chapel is made possible by the La Porte Hospital Foundation Chapel Fund for the wellness of lives and holistic health¾body, mind and spirit.
