Invitation to register for the 2020 Indiana University Education Conference

On behalf of the Indiana Commission for Higher Education and Indiana Black Expo, Inc., we are excited to invite you to the 13th Annual Indiana University Education Conference presented by the Indiana Department of Child Services and Strada Education Network.  Themed “Creating Inclusive, Innovative, and Equitable Pathways for Learning during COVID-19,” this year’s free virtual conference will take place on Tuesday, July 14, Wednesday, July 15th, and Thursday, July 16th from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted our educational systems throughout the United States. The pursuit of containing its spread has led to a near-total closure of schools, universities, and colleges. This year, IBE alongside numerous community partners, will provide K-12 educators and higher education leaders across the country with resources, best practices and professional development training to assist students with success during and after a COVID-19 world. Commissioner Lubbers will lead an opening session which will focus on the State of Higher Education during COVID-19.

Conference partners include Indiana University, Indiana Commission for Higher Education, Indiana Department of Child Services, Indiana State University, Ivy Tech Community College, GEO Foundation, Pacers Sports & Entertainment, Marion County Health Department, Strada Education Network, Lumina Foundation, Visit Indy, and Lilly Endowment.

This year’s conference keynote speakers include Dr. Ibram Kendi and Dr. Marc Lamont Hill. Dr. Ibram X. Kendi is the Professor of History and the founder of the Center for Antiracist Research at Boston University. He has also been the Professor of History and International Relations and the Founding Director of the Antiracist Research and Policy Center at American University. Dr. Kendi is the author of Stamped from the Beginning and How to Be an Antiracist. Through his powerful columns in The Atlantic, his recent TED talk on antiracism, and the rest of his prolific work, Dr. Kendi argues that antiracism isn’t just about acknowledging injustice, but acting against it. His revelatory speeches expose the racist roots of modern society and provide audiences with the tools to dismantle them.

Dr. Marc Lamont Hill is one of the leading intellectual voices in the country. An award-winning journalist, Dr. Hill has received numerous prestigious awards from the National Association of Black Journalists, GLAAD, and the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences. Dr. Hill is the Steve Charles Professor of Media, Cities, and Solutions at Temple University. Prior to that, he held positions at Columbia University and Morehouse College. Dr. Hill holds a Ph.D. (with distinction) from the University of Pennsylvania.
