Indiana University Northwest Expands Parking Facilities in Response to Enrollment Increase

Additional parking available at Grant Street and 37th Avenue in the Village Shopping Center iunlogo

Due to an expected increase in student enrollment, Indiana University Northwest has expanded its parking facilities to accommodate additional student traffic. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to use the IU Northwest Park & Ride lot located at the university’s new “Arts on Grant” location at Grant Street and 37th Avenue in the Village Shopping Center.

Individuals using the Park & Ride lot can ride the free RedHawk Shuttle bus to and from campus. Shuttle departures and arrivals will occur every 10 to 14 minutes with two campus stops: the Moraine Student Center, located just south of the main campus parking lot, adjacent to the Savannah Center, and the south entrance of the Library Conference Center, located on 35th Avenue. Signage will indicate the designated drop-off points.

IU Northwest Park & Ride is an easy and convenient option,” said Joseph Pellicciotti, Vice Chancellor for Administration. “This lot is located less than one mile from campus and is a great alternative for students, faculty and staff to consider when the campus lots hit maximum capacity.”

The RedHawk Shuttle will run 8 a.m. until 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday during the fall and spring semesters when classes are in session. All riders are required to present a university ID to board the shuttle. There will be on-site security at the Park and Ride lot during its hours of operation, and the campus police department will patrol the lot as part of its regular rounds.

Shuttle schedule

The first shuttle will depart at 8 a.m. from the Park & Ride lot. Moraine Student Center will be the first stop, followed by the Library Conference Center.

The final shuttle of the day will depart approximately at 5:50 p.m. from the Moraine Student Center and 5:53 p.m. from the south entrance of the Library Conference Center on 35th Avenue. The final shuttle will arrive at the Park & Ride lot around 6 p.m.

Shuttle passengers should note that the RedHawk Shuttle does not run after 6 p.m. IU Northwest strongly encourages students, faculty and staff to keep their evening class and work schedules in mind to ensure transportation is available to and from campus.

Campus community members should also note that parking WILL NOT be allowed in the Gleason Golf Course parking lots. As of Aug. 30, any students, faculty or staff who park in the Gleason lot are subject to have their vehicles towed at their own expense!

Beginning in Spring 2011, Fine Arts and Performing Arts courses will be taught in the newly leased Arts on Grant space at the Village. This facility will serve as the temporary location for those programs until construction of the new Tamarack Hall is completed. The existing Tamarack Hall was damaged in a 2008 flood and has since been closed.

RedHawk Shuttle service begins on the first day of classes, Monday, Aug. 30. For more information about IU Northwest Park & Ride, visit the Web at http://www.iun.edu/~rshuttle/.
