Indiana University Northwest Dental Hygiene Students Provide Dental Cleanings

Patients needed to provide students with real-world experience at the IU Northwest Dental Clinic iunlogo

The Indiana University Northwest Dental Clinic is accepting patient appointments for community members interested in receiving oral exams, x-rays and other basic dental services from faculty-supervised students at reduced cost.

The IU Northwest Dental Education Program, part of the College of Health and Human Services, prepares dental assistant and dental hygiene students for the professional world by providing them with hands-on training and experience, while also improving the health and hygiene of Northwest Indiana residents.

The IU Northwest Dental Clinic provides diagnostic and preventative dental care, including oral examinations, dental cleaning, fluoride treatments, x-rays, dental sealants, oral hygiene instruction, and referrals.

Services range in price, with the cost of a cleaning starting at $51; a cleaning with four mouth x-rays costs $68; and a cleaning with x-rays of the full mouth is $81.

Currently enrolled college students attending any school will receive services at half price with a valid student I.D. and proof of enrollment. Senior citizens over the age of 60 will receive a service discount of 25 percent.

No insurance is accepted or processed; a code will be provided for those wishing to submit their own claim to their health insurance provider.

Appointments are necessary. IU Northwest Dental Clinic hours for the Fall 2010 semester are 8 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday; 1 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday; and 8 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. The clinic is closed on Thursday and Sunday.

The Dental Education Program at IU Northwest offers a certificate in dental assisting and an Associate of Science degree in dental hygiene.

The Dental Clinic is located on the IU Northwest campus in the Dunes Medical Professional Building on the corner of Jefferson St. and 35th Ave. A patient parking lot is located on the north end of Dunes.
