Two upcoming seminars hosted by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce in June focus on keeping Hoosier employers in check with two important federal laws: the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) and the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA).

Fiduciary Training Seminar, June 5, 8:30 a.m. to noon. The Department of Labor is increasingly auditing company-sponsored retirement plans and looking for at least one piece of information: That those serving in fiduciary roles are properly and annually trained. This half-day seminar will present an overview of what a fiduciary is and why it is important to know the functions and duties required of a fiduciary and how to abide by the standards of conduct set forth in ERISA. It also covers the trends in corporate retirement and other investment plans as well as hot topics in the industry. It is presented by ProCourse Fiduciary Advisors and Barnes & Thornburg LLP. Cost: $199 for Indiana Chamber members; $229 for non-members. “
FMLA Seminar, June 11, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Attendees will learn about the impact of FMLA and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) on absenteeism; giving notice of FMLA for the employer and employee; qualifying conditions (including birth, adoption/foster care, serious health conditions, etc.); how to calculate leave and pay; and FMLA abuse. The seminar will wrap up with an interactive session on real FMLA issues as well as the opportunity to ask a lawyer about related questions. The session is presented by Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, PC. Cost: $299 for Indiana Chamber members; $329 for non-members.
Both events will be held at the Indiana Chamber Conference Center in downtown Indianapolis and group discounts are available. Continuing education credits are available for the Fiduciary Training Seminar. The FMLA Seminar is good for one credit toward the completion of the Human Resource Specialist Certificate.
