“The customer web portal is a great tool for consumers,” said Prine. “At indianaamwater.com, a customer can make a payment, see their account history, make a service request, receive real-time, emergency alerts, and even track usage and pick-up tips on conserving water and saving money.”

To make that happen, Indiana American Water employs qualified individuals in its business, engineering, customer service, health and safety, operations, and many other branches of the company.
Sylvester Hammond, a field service representative at Indiana American Water, is one of the many smiling faces that you may see out in the area, setting the example of the customer service team’s attention to detail and quality of care. What he loves most about Indiana American Water is being in a position where he interacts directly with customers as he services their needs.
“My job involves going out, meeting the customers, and taking care of their needs,” said Hammond. “Checking for leaks, checking meters, and making sure that they are working properly is what I do.”
Operations Supervisor at Indiana American Water Miguel Morales loves to see team members like Hammond executing the mission of the company with such a high regard for the people they are helping.
“We have a team that specializes in customer care,” said Morales. “They would run service tickets that would include meeting with the customers, explaining their bill, helping with any issues that may come up, or restoring their service.”
Mike Seals, engineering manager at Indiana American Water, is also involved with quality services as he works to upgrade any infrastructure utilized by the company.
“I manage different infrastructure upgrades like pipeline replacements, water plant upgrades and expansions, and any type of infrastructure project that we may need to update in our systems,” said Seals.
Though these services are essential in a water and wastewater utility company, and they allow Indiana American Water to have the well-known name they do today, Morales feels that the business goes above and beyond these tasks and projects. For customers, they want to know that their requests are being valued and that their wellbeing is cared for.
“There’s so much more than just opening up a tap and knowing that your water is going to be there, and that when it gets there it’s what you expect – it’s clean and it’s safe,” said Morales. “We have field technicians who go out and read the meters every month to make sure that we are billing accurately. That’s a big part of customer care; understanding that there is value for what you’re getting and that we’re providing you with accurate billing is important.”

“It’s important for us that we have different personalities, we have different backgrounds, we have different lives outside of here,” said Morales. “But when we are here, our goal is the same: to ensure that when we leave here that the customers are getting the best water, and that we’re doing that safely, we’re doing it timely, we’re doing it in a way that promotes community in the office as well as at home.”
