Recently, the Independent Cat Society (ICS) of Westville, Indiana, was selected to receive a grant from the Porter County Community Foundation (PCCF) in the amount of $5,000. Most of the grants that the ICS receives have arrived by mail, but the Grant Committee representatives at the Porter County Community Foundation wanted to deliver this check in person. And the ICS staff was glad they did! The ICS has an important partnership with both Porter and LaPorte Counties in helping to reduce pet over-population by providing low-cost spay neuter options and promoting responsible pet-ownership. Additionally, ICS has trained volunteers who provide Trap/Neuter/Release services in areas of high feral cat concentrations.
Of course, Garfield had to admit that he didn’t know how to read or sign checks, so Grant Chair, Roberta Jocius and Board President, Staci Treckles helped him out. Here they are, pictured with Ms. Remster and Ms. Jackie Stutzman, who is also on the PCCF Board.
The generosity of the PCCF grant will help the ICS spay and neuter more cats in the region, so that more cats can live fuller and happier lives, rather than worrying about being in a community that is overpopulated. This grant will also help the ICS assist low-income families and pet owners in Porter County live better lives together with their pets. It’s a win for all sides!
