As temperatures begin to rise and people start to head outside, it is time to brush up on your golf game. Briar Leaf Golf Club offers lessons with PGA Pro Jay Williams. Williams is a PGA member with 35 years of experience successfully helping golfers of all ages and abilities improve their game.
Williams has been featured in “Country Club Golfer Magazine,” “Golf Digest“ and “PGA Magazine.” He is a PGA Quarter Century Club Member, an Indiana Section PGA Junior Golf Leader Nominee, a PGA President’s Council on Growing the Game, and was a four year letterman at Missouri State University (National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Div. 1).
In addition, he is one of only four putting instructors certified by EyeLine Golf in the State of Indiana. He also has received designation as a Tour Roll certified instructor, making him one of only a handful of EyeLine Golf Elite Instructors in the country.
Williams describes his coaching style as fun, relaxed and simple, so that those taking lessons feel comfortable right away.
“My goal is for you to get off of the range and onto the course playing better,” Williams said. “I am a believer that players are often trying to consciously accomplish too many things in a swing that lasts about one second. I coach the game very simply, focusing on a certain sensation or feel that the player senses when they hit a good shot.”
“Once that feeling has been identified, the player uses that swing key to play the game on the course,” Williams added. ”That feeling is different for everyone, which is why in-person golf instruction is the only way to go. If you truly want to understand and improve your golf game, I recommend that you contact a PGA Professional and build a relationship with a coach that knows your game.”
Briar Leaf provides a beautiful 18-hole course, full-size practice range and putting green and offers a variety of lessons for any type of golfer.
“Briar Leaf is a very fun golf course to play,” Williams said. “It has plenty of challenges for the low-handicap golfer, yet is not so difficult that it can’t be enjoyed by the newer or less-skilled player. There are a variety of holes and just enough trouble to keep you focused. Plus, after the round, we have a wonderful restaurant, Portofino Grill, right here in our clubhouse. We are the only course that I know of that allows junior golfers high school age and under to play for free every day.”
Lessons range from group instruction, private lessons, junior lessons and William's exclusive Diamond Coaching program.
Group Instruction starts at $60/session with a series of four = $220; series of seven = $350 and series of 10 = $480. Private lessons are $80 each with a series of four = $290; series of seven = $475 and series of 10 = $650. Private lesson time is approximately 45 minutes. Cash payment preferred; credit/debit card payments incur a 4% upcharge.
“Private coaching sessions have already begun,” Williams said. “Our 'No Fear' Ladies’ Clinics start in May, and Junior Camps begin in June.”
Junior Lessons are $60 each and a series of four = $220; series of seven = $350 and series of 10 = $480.
“Our Junior Camps encompass youngsters from five - 17 years of age,” Williams said. “We see well over 100 juniors in our camps every single season, which is something I am very proud of. With all of the playing and instruction opportunities we provide for young people, we are absolutely the leaders in growing the game through Junior Golf. You will see the hashtag #JuniorGolfCapitalOfIndiana on our social media posts.”
For serious golfers, Briar Leaf also offers a Diamond Coaching program for $1,400. This customized program includes 12 private lessons with Williams, on-course sessions with video analysis and feedback; specialized putting program; full bag club fitting with launch monitor ($150 value); multiple training aids to keep ($300 value); intensive 'Red Zone' scoring challenge and wedge gapping training; season-long practice range membership ($325 value); three rounds of golf with riding cart ($150 value) and a copy of Williams’ “47 Secrets to an Unbelievable Short Game!”
