Lifelong La Porte County resident, Jennifer Shoup, recently joined Horizon Bank in March as the district manager of La Porte County, and she’s also celebrating 30 years in banking this June.
Coming from a position as a retail market leader, Shoup’s new role as a district manager comes with similar responsibilities including the management of eight sales offices in La Porte County during an exciting time as Horizon continues to grow.
“This is where our company headquarters are so it’s pretty exciting,” said Shoup. “I provide coaching, guidance, and oversight to eight banking offices as we strive in those branches to meet the needs of our customers.”
“Our tagline is, ‘Exceptional Service, Sensible Advice,’ and our main focus is to build lifelong relationships. Really, in a nutshell, I help our advisors build those lifelong relationships with our customers. We make our customers dreams come true. If you want to buy a house, buy a car or go to college, we’re here to help make that happen.”
Shoup spoke about what she enjoys most about the industry and what’s kept her in banking for so long.
“I love working with our customers and providing financial services to help make their lives easier by helping them make money or save money,” Shoup noted. “I also love helping our advisors grow in their careers.”
“Horizon supports progressive learning and the training and development opportunities within our company are immense. Advisors can truly get guidance to help them be the best that they can be, progress in their career, and provide great service to our customers. We have a great training and development department with access to online training resources.”
For Shoup, the transition into her new role at Horizon Bank has been seamless and she’s been encouraged by the customer-centered and team-oriented mission that Horizon values so highly.
“I fit right into the culture here on day one,” said Shoup. “Maybe systems are a little different but I was completely supported. There are great opportunities here, and as the company grows, I look forward to seeing my advisors grow with the company too. For example, if we’re opening a new branch, our advisors may have the opportunity to get promoted as well. I recently presented an employee with an opportunity and it was great to see how excited she got. I could have the worst day and that five minutes with that employee erases everything!”
