Horizon Bank goes beyond leaving a lasting impact on Region communities

On Tuesday, November 28, Horizon Bank held its very first Horizon Cares Day of Giving. Advisors from all Horizon Bank locations stepped out of the office to engage with their communities and extend a helping hand to those in need. By the end of the day, more than 80 organizations across the Region and beyond had benefited from their collective efforts.

"Our first Horizon Cares Day was a huge success due to our dedicated Advisors who eagerly went beyond and selfishly gave their time to so many deserving non profit organizations. This day of giving simply reinforces our culture of giving back and our strong commitment to our local communities," said CEO Thomas Prame.”

Kat Hinsch, Senior Loan Operations Clerk at Horizon Bank, shared her enthusiasm, stating, "There's a lot of good being done today." The decision to initiate a Day of Giving this year was fueled by the team's desire to spread kindness during the holiday season. Recognizing the community's consistent support, Horizon Bank aimed to reciprocate the goodwill.

Hinsch emphasized the broader role Horizon Bank envisions for itself, stating, "We wanted to show our community that we're more than just a financial institution. We're here to help our communities and support local nonprofits and businesses. This is an excellent way to express our gratitude to all the businesses that support us."

What set Horizon Bank's Day of Giving apart was the involvement of Advisors in selecting the organizations they served. This personalized approach allowed employees to support causes close to their hearts. Krysta Loucks, an Operational Risk Specialist, chose to contribute to Dunebrook, a nonprofit that provides resources to help prevent and intervene in cases of child abuse. Having previously served on the Dunebrook board, Loucks found the experience meaningful as it allowed her to share the organization's mission and raise awareness for child abuse prevention.

Reflecting on the impact, Loucks remarked, "It's great to be here and show my support for this organization." The day not only facilitated meaningful contributions but also fostered camaraderie among employees, providing a unique team-building experience outside the office.

Hinsch highlighted the significance of such collaborative efforts, saying, "We already work well together as a team, but days like today give us an opportunity to bond. It's definitely a different type of team building than we're used to." Loucks hoped the experience would inspire her colleagues to recognize the power of volunteerism and encourage more active participation in giving back.

With employees engaged in activities ranging from painting walls to building storage units and packing resource bags, Horizon Bank's Day of Giving showcased the positive impact that collective efforts can have.

The success of Horizon Bank's Day of Giving served as a important reminder of the transformative effect of helping one another and spreading kindness. As Loucks aptly put it, "It's a blessing to work for a company that believes in the community and wants to inspire its employees to give back. Giving is so important, especially during this time of the year." The event not only strengthened the bond within the Horizon Bank team but also left an indelible mark on the communities they served.
