Horizon Bank and Alcoa Pledge Generous Support to “Love Our Lakes”

Pine-Lake-Revised-PhaseThe Unity Foundation of La Porte County received generous support from two local businesses to advance the “Love Our Lakes” project. Horizon Bank and Alcoa Foundation have made gifts of $75,000 each toward the project at 1010 Pine Lake Avenue in La Porte.

The Love Our Lakes, Pine Lake Avenue project includes a vision to preserve the beauty of the lakefront and enhance the community for generations, by preserving the two-acre site of the former Roskoe’s restaurant. Unity Foundation is partnering with the La Porte Park Foundation, La Porte Park Department and others to create a public space on the water for all to enjoy.

In addition to thanking Horizon and Alcoa, a rendering depicting a potential concept for the project was revealed recently at the site. Discussions have been held with the La Porte Park Board, La Porte Parks Foundation and others regarding possible usage for the land, which provides one of the last open views of the lake for persons entering the north end of town.

Horizon Chief Executive Officer Craig Dwight said, “Horizon Bank is pleased to contribute to the preservation of the lakefront on Pine Lake. This will ensure the beauty of one of La Porte’s most precious assets, providing access to the lake for residents and visitors for generations to come.”

Alcoa Human Resources Director Tera Grinnell added: “Alcoa Howmet is excited to join forces with the Unity Foundation and La Porte County businesses and leaders in support of the Love our Lakes project. Alcoa is committed to supporting community initiatives that seek to preserve our natural resources and give back to the residents of La Porte.”

Additional corporate and private donations are being sought to help finance the purchase of the land and work on the property. More than $830,000 has been raised in pledges to-date.
