Home Team Receives $17k Grant From Healthcare Foundation of La Porte

unity-foundation-lpc-2016The Home Team, a collaboration of nonprofits, government, churches, and passionate individuals concerned with housing and homelessness, facilitated through Unity Foundation of La Porte County, has received a grant from the Healthcare Foundation of La Porte (HFL). Part of the grant, which totals $17,500, will provide the group with funding to contract a technical assistant from a national organization to help develop a tactical plan for an emergency shelter system. Remaining grant funds will support overall Home Team coordination. This grant will provide much needed funding to expand the success the collaboration has made since its inception in 2004.

Home Team Coordinator, Ed Seal of Swanson Center, states, “I am proud to work with the many Home Team partners and am excited about the chance to partner with HFL as we continue our efforts focusing on emergency sheltering, case management strategies to stop the cycle of homelessness, policy position statements to let our policy makers know what is going on and how it’s affecting our community, prevention strategies including early childhood education, and financial literacy. This grant allows us to work with experts in the field as we implement the next steps toward ending homelessness in our local communities. We are extremely appreciative of this opportunity and what it means to some of the most vulnerable in our community.”

The Healthcare Foundation of La Porte (HFL) is a not for profit, independent, private foundation dedicated to empowering our residents to live healthy and well in and around La Porte. HFL envisions partnering with many types of community organizations through thoughtful grantmaking to build a healthier community together.
