Holiday donations benefit babies at Franciscan Health

A pair of recent donations through the Franciscan Health Foundation will swaddle local babies in generosity this holiday season.

Franciscan Health Crown Point’s neonatal intensive care unit accepted a donation of hand-knitted baby blankets from Purdue Federal Credit Union. Jeff Love, account vice president at the credit union, said employees did the knitting over their lunch hour. The blankets will be given to families as a gift when their child goes home from the NICU.

“We’re always so appreciative of the community’s generosity and we’re very thankful for Purdue’s contribution,” said Franciscan Health Foundation Executive Director Rick Peltier.

Another donation from St. Mary Catholic Church in Crown Point will benefit the prenatal assistance program at Franciscan Health St. Clare Health Clinic in Crown Point. Cyndi Walsh of St. Mary’s Finance Council said parishioners wanted to do something as a group, so they began a baby clothing drive.

The clothes, diapers and other supplies were delivered to the clinic, which offers a prenatal assistance program to low-income individuals, allowing them access to healthcare and public assistance. “It’s right in our backyard, so we definitely want to support our local community,” Walsh said.
