Historic Structure Photo Contest

st-pauls-uccIt's time to print out some of those beauties hiding in your cameras. The La Porte County Historical Society in conjunction with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources is again sponsoring a photo contest. The photo needs to be of a historic structure in La Porte County that is at least 50 years old. The photo should be current- taken anytime within the last 2 years. It can be black & white or color and must be 8"x 10". This year we are not asking it to be matted; we will only matte the 3 winners to be sent to the state contest.

The deadline for the contest is March 15th, 2014 so get your entries in soon! For a complete list of guidelines as well as an application, come to the La Porte County Historical Society Museum and pick them up. Or contact us through the web site at www.laportecountyhistory.org and one will be sent to you. A filled out application must accompany each entry.

A panel consisting of a preservationist, a photographer, and an artist will judge the photos. Anyone under 18 years of age must have a signature of a parent or guardian. Trophies will be given. The photos will be part of a temporary display at the museum and will become the property of the Historical Society. Winning photos will be sent to Indianapolis to compete at the state level and will become the property of the Indiana DNR.

Think outside the box! Look through the photos you have taken over the past year and see what gems you may have shot! How about taking a photo of a wonderful iron bridge or railroad trestle? Maybe an interesting barn or silo might be just the thing to catch the judge's eye. Churches, schools and theatres built before 1964 are all eligible.

The La Porte County Historical Society Museum is located at 2405 Indiana Avenue in La Porte, and is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00A.M. to 4:30P.M. Call ahead for admission prices at 219-324-6767, or visit our website at www.laportecountyhistory.org. Children under 12 enter free. The facility is accessible to those with disabilities
