High School Student Learning the Basics of Business at La Porte Chrysler

There is a brand new addition to the Ideas in Motion Media team. Kaitlyn Steinhiser, a Senior at Michigan City High School, has recently accepted an opportunity to become a part of the #1StudentNWI program here at IIMM.

Kaitlyn will be acting as an insider journalist for news happening in Michigan City High School. She will be reporting on students, teachers and other great things happening within the school.

Not only does she work hard at school and as a #1StudentNWI, she has also worked for La Porte Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM SRT as a jack of all trades for the past 2 years. Kaitlyn works as a receptionist, a cashier, an office aid and often works in the rental department.

Kaitlyn says that working at La Porte Chrysler has taught her a lot about cars, money management, earnings statements and how a proper, professional business is run.

“I definitely learned money management,” Steinhiser said. “I’ve helped post the average earnings per day when it comes to service. So I learned how to handle all that and I really like that. I just learned what a professional business environment is and that was really cool, especially in high school”

Working for Matt Magnuson, General Manager at LPCDJR, has been a real inspiration for Kaitlyn.

“It’s really great because he’s really passionate about his job and improving the dealership. I get to witness that passion first hand, so it’s really cool.”

Kaitlyn says that working in sales and getting to negotiate with clients has been a great experience for her in achieving her goals. After graduation, Kaitlyn wants to either to go Butler or Loyola University to become a lawyer.

“When working with people in the rental department it’s interesting trying to kind of work deals with them, because people are always looking for the best deal. So, it’s interesting to work with those kind of people.”

When asked what makes La Porte Chrysler a successful business, Kaitlyn said it has to be the immediate client relationship they form with the people who come in.

“They’re super friendly to everyone who comes there. And they develop an immediate relationship with everyone, with all of their customers. And no one has that customer service in my opinion.”
