Helping Young People Cope with Stress

indiana-youth-institute-logoAdults may look at a young person’s life and think they have little to no stress. For many children, that simply isn’t the case. From tests and homework to friends, sports and even life at home, children are faced with daily stresses. They react very differently to these challenges than adults do. And teaching children how to cope with those issues can have a big impact on their daily lives.

To help adults learn how to teach children coping skills, the Indiana Youth Institute (IYI) is hosting a free seminar as part of its Youth Worker Café series. Robin Vida, director of health education for the St. Joseph County Health Department, will speak about the types of stress young people today face, how to help them deal with the stress and ways to talk to them about maintaining their mental health.

The forum will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. (Eastern Time) on Wednesday, September 16 at the Logan Center, 2505 E. Jefferson Blvd in South Bend. As part of IYI’s Youth Worker Café program, the seminar and a light meal are free, but reservations are required. Please RSVP by September 15 at www.iyi.org/YWC. If you have trouble with the link, please contact IYI Statewide Outreach Manager Debbie Jones at djones@iyi.org.

This café is made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Early Childhood Alliance, the Food Bank of Northern Indiana, St. Joseph County Health Department and IYI. It is funded in part by the Old National Bank Foundation.

Youth Worker Cafés are designed to bring together local youth workers to build relationships and inspire collaborations that will benefit children. For more information on the Youth Worker Café, contact IYI Northwest Indiana Outreach Manager Stephen Gill at sgill@iyi.org.
