Healthy Hustle Beneficiaries Honored at New Medical Plaza

Two local non-profits were honored today at the new Porter Medical Plaza. The first Healthy Hustle 5K, held at the Porter Regional Hospital campus in late July, raised enough money to grant both Lakeshore PAWS and the Porter County Cancer Society $1,530 each. “This is a wonderful conclusion to a wonderful event,” shared Porter CEO Jonathan Nalli.

Choosing what organization would benefit from the race was not an easy task, one Nalli left to Porter associates to decide. After the first round of votes, close to 100 non-profits were recommended as beneficiaries. That number was whittled down to the 5 or 6 who received the highest amount of votes and put to a vote again, with Lakeshore PAWS and the Porter County Cancer Society tying for the top spot. On hand to receive the proceeds were Jeanne Sommer, Co-Founder of Lakeshore PAWS, and Monique Herron, President of the Porter County Cancer Society.

The Medical Plaza is conveniently adjacent to Porter Regional Hospital, housing the new Cancer Care Center and Center for Women’s Health, along with several physician offices. “This facility is allowing patients to have the most convenient care and access that they’ve ever had in Porter County,” stated Nalli, discussing how the center will provide the most comprehensive care for cancer patients and women in Porter County.

Through a covered walkway direct to the hospital, the Medical Plaza allows patients who come in for an office visit access to lab work and outpatient testing without having to travel to another facility. An educational area in the Women’s Center will provide information and support.

Opening October 1st, the plaza will complete the Porter Regional Hospital campus, bringing better, expedited care to the region.
