The Healthcare Foundation of La Porte strives to better the lives of La Porte residents through innovative programs, empowerment, and a clear focus on wellness. Whether those programs or services put an emphasis on the social, mental, or physical wellbeing of people, the HFL is always looking for new organizations to partner with to meet its mission of a safe and healthy community. Now, local community organizations have the chance to do so. The HFL is pleased to announce that the second Grant Cycle of 2018 is now open for applications.

Through the HFL, three types of grants can be found: Strategic, Responsive, and Capacity Building. Each type of grant has a specific focus and its purpose is to meet a certain need or issue within the La Porte community.

The first of the three grants, the Strategic grant, is to “address already specific board-approved major community needs with a defined impact on health and wellness,” according to the HFL. Three grants fall within the Strategic grant: Healthy Living, Healthy Children, and Healthy Minds. By focusing on Healthy Living, communities can reduce obesity, provide access to healthy food, and more. With a spotlight on Healthy Children, La Porte organizations can decrease the rate of teen pregnancy, increase home and school safety, and have an impact on a number of other issues children face today. And lastly, Healthy Minds can improve access to mental health and substance abuse treatment.

Next, the Responsive grant is intended for programs, services, or organizations that do not fall within one of the three focuses of the Strategic grant. The Responsive grant falls into one area, the Healthy La Porte grant, which has a purpose of “expanding successful existing programs that improve the health and wellness of the residents of the City of La Porte and surrounding areas.” It also can help lure new initiatives to meet the health and wellness needs of La Porte citizens, and can foster collaboration between organizations and businesses.

And finally, the Capacity Buiding grant, which includes the Healthy Partners grant, looks to increase the presence of nonprofits working to better the La Porte community and better these nonprofits’ knowledge of “infrastructure, management, and governance.”

There are a number of requirements one must meet in order to be eligible for a grant from the Healthcare Foundation of La Porte. The program must directly affect and serve residents of La Porte and its surrounding areas and must improve health and wellness. Applications for these grants close on June 29th, so be sure to apply for an impactful grant through the Healthcare Foundation of La Porte today. The opportunity to work hand in hand with an organization like the HFL guarantees immediate and necessary changes in La Porte, creating a safer, healthier, and happier community.
