Healthcare Foundation of La Porte (HFL) was established on March 1, 2016. HFL envisions partnering with many types of community organizations so we can build a healthy community together. HFL is excited to learn about the wonderful health and wellness initiatives and programs in our community, and is committed to delivering and supporting innovative and evidence-based ideas to make our vision a reality.
Funded initially with $106M from the change in ownership for IU Health La Porte and Starke Hospitals, the foundation is managed by a volunteer board of 11 local community members and it is focused on improving the health of the local community. The board members include several former chairs of the La Porte Hospital Board and several members of the existing La Porte Hospital Foundation. These community members respect and cherish the legacy of both La Porte Hospital and the existing Foundation.
The Healthcare Foundation of La Porte will optimize healthy living in La Porte by focusing on Strategic and Though Leadership, Grantmaking, Scholarship and Vouchers, and Healthcare Programming. “Over the next few months, we will be reaching out across the community to introduce the Healthcare Foundation of La Porte and our board, talk about our mission and vision and share our excitement for this next chapter,” said Maria Fruth, HFL Chief Executive Officer. “We will be conducting a community scan to get to know in more detail all of the wonderful health and wellness initiatives and programs delivered by our community’s organizations. As we match our community health and wellness assets with the community health needs, we will be ready to assess grant applications as they become available during the third quarter of 2017.”
“Our La Porte community has a long history of supporting healthcare initiatives, from building the current hospital in the late 1960s to recent capital campaigns supporting heart services and facilities. The establishment of HFL begins the next chapter in La Porte’s story,” said Chairman of the Board of Directors, Jeffrey Bernel. “We are all committed to working in partnership with all of the community organizations and residents of La Porte to fulfill HFL’s vision to be one of the top ten healthiest counties in Indiana by 2030!”
