Healthcare Foundation of La Porte launches 2021 Grant Cycle 1

Healthcare Foundation of La Porte launches 2021 Grant Cycle 1

Healthcare Foundation of La Porte (HFL) has poured into the La Porte community since its inception and in 2017, they identified major needs within the community and plotted a strategic roadmap based on those needs. To address these community needs, HFL developed three Strategic Grant Focus Areas: Healthy Living, Healthy Minds, and Healthy Children.

The Healthy Living focus addresses nutrition and active living. The Healthy Minds focus addresses mental health and drug prevention and treatment. The Healthy Children focus addresses the overall health and safety of children ranging from prenatal all the way through the end of high school.

“Since we opened our doors, we have been very focused on creating not only a structure for the new foundation but also for identifying health and wellness needs in the community,” said President and CEO of HFL Maria Fruth. “When we created our strategic roadmap in 2017, we identified those three strategic areas of focus. We went through a long process of strategic planning, and we revisit this planning quite often to understand if we are on target.”

These Strategic Grants have been available through application since 2017. They are open to programs that serve the City of La Porte or La Porte County and respond to one or more community needs identified within HFL’s Strategic Grant Focus Areas.

In addition to HFL’s Strategic Grants, they also offer Responsive Grants and Capacity Building Grants. The Responsive Grants, also referred to as Healthy La Porte Grants, serve as another offering for programs that may not fall into one of the three Strategic Grants Focus Areas. Capacity Building Grants, also referred to as Healthy Partners, are only available by invitation.

Grants awarded:

2020
Healthy Living: $1,460,229
Healthy Minds: $209,439
Healthy Children: $826,481
Healthy La Porte: $304,160

2017-2020
Healthy Living: $7,661,993
Healthy Minds: $2,444,522
Healthy Children: $2,758,419
Healthy La Porte: $1,486,308

Through their Strategic Grants, Responsive Grants, and Capacity Building Grants, HFL has been actively addressing the needs of the City of La Porte and La Porte County for the past three years. The majority of organizations that have been awarded these grants have continued to take advantage of these grants over the past three years.

Tracking the positive changes made in the community through these grants is a long process, so having organizations that have continued to associate with HFL through the years helps them track the influence of the grants. While the majority of these organizations have taken part in the grant cycle for the past few years, HFL looks to constantly acquire new opportunities and partners to help bring solutions to the community.

HFL’s first grant cycle for 2021 opened on January 15 and is accepting letters of intent (LOI) now through January 29 at 11:59 p.m. CST. For programs that are interested in a partnership with HFL but will not be able to provide an LOI by January 29, the second grant cycle will begin on May 28. LOI for the second grant cycle will be due by June 11 at 11:59 p.m. CST.
