Hanna Will Host Town Incorporation Meeting on March 31, 2015

HannaFest-Lions-FloatOver the past 3 months the town of Hanna has held 3 town meetings discussing the community’s future. More than 90 local citizens have participated. The series of meetings was sponsored by the Hanna Lions Club and partially funded by a grant from the Unity Foundation of La Porte County. The group has discussed community values, pride, aspirations, assets, wishes, and challenges.

The topic of town incorporation often surfaced, so an informational meeting has been arranged around that topic. It will be held on March 31 at 5:30 pm at the Hanna United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. A representative from the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns (IACT) will speak and answer questions. “There is no current proposal for the town to incorporate, but local citizens have a lot of questions about it,” according to Lions Club member, Jim Jessup. “This will give all of us a chance to understand the process and the pros and cons,” Jessup added. Representatives from other communities are also invited to attend.

So what’s next for Hanna? “We want to continue gathering information and begin prioritizing our projects,” Jessup explained. There will be a meeting about sewers, street lights, and town safety. Task forces are being organized around the topics of
*beautification and activities
*economic development
*new partnerships
*and building a brand with logo, slogan, and promotion of the community
Other topics will be youth involvement and forming a leadership group to keep the process going.
