Hammond’s Mayor McDermott Announces Recipients of 2016 Gaming Advisory Committee Funding

rot5Hammond Mayor Thomas M. McDermott, Jr. announces that the 2016 Gaming Advisory Committee has made their determination on which charitable organizations the City will fund this year.

The organizations are: American Cancer Society; American Veterans Collection Inc.; Association for the Wolf Lake Initiative; Bishop Noll Institute; Books, Brushes & Banks; Catholic Charities Diocese of Gary; Challenger Learning Center of Northwest Indiana, Community Center Development Corporation; Crossroads YMCA, Inc. Hammond; Downtown Hammond Council; Early Learning Partnership; East Side Community Council; 4 Quarters 4 Life Community Organization; For the Love of the Arts, Inc.; Greater Hammond Community Services; Habitat for Humanity of Northwest Indiana, Inc.; Hammond Academy of Science and Technology; Hammond Community Theatre; Hammond Community Watch; Hammond Education Foundation; Hammond Hermits Athletic Association; Hammond Hurricanes; Hammond Mohawk's; Hammond Parks Foundation; Hammond Reads, Inc.; Haven House; Henry W. Eggers PTSA (Athletic); Hessville Commerce and community Creative; Hessville Little League; Hessville Vipers; Hessville Youth Hoops; Illiana Rugby Football Club, Lake County in Economic Alliance; Leon's Triathlon; Meals on Wheels; Mental Health American of Lake County; Mt. Zion Dr. A.R. Burns Pleasant View Plaza; No Limits Track Club; Boy Scouts of America; Pulaski Park Neighborhood Association; St. Casimir School; Tri City special Games; School City of Hammond Robotics; Society of St. Vincent de Paul — OLPH; South Shore Arts, Inc.; St. John Bosco School; The Arc Northwest Indiana; Towle Community Theatre; Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church; and United Citizens Association.

The Gaming Advisory Committee was established to oversee and determine how Hammond can best fund and support the many requests that we receive on an annual basis. By appointing a committee, we can assure that our decisions to fund organizations and projects are done on a fair and equitable manner and in the best interests of Hammond residents. The advisory committee represents a cross section of Hammond residents. They are: Melissa Farrell, Helen "Cookie" Spudic; Anne Herbert; Joyce Koch; Ray Garcia, Roger Brock, Councilwoman Janet Venecz, Councilman Dan Spitale, Sharon Szany and Marty Wielgos, Committee Chair.

"Since 2004, over $15 million of gaming revenue has been donated to fund hundreds of charitable organizations", stated Mayor McDermott.
