Habitat for Humanity Construction Update – 911 Park Street, LaPorte

La-Porte-Habitat-911-Park-Streeet-2016_01Work is progressing swiftly at the Habitat Home at 911 Park Street in LaPorte. Here is a report from Keith Hite, Construction Manager on some of the recent happenings:

The house has been going great. We have had many hard working and motivated volunteers on site already. Our individual volunteers have brought different backgrounds to the site -- from no experience with construction to very experienced. Several have made the comment that they have always wanted to help out but did not know how. Our Habitat board has done a terrific job of getting the word out for volunteers and helping schedule people and groups. Therese and the Habitat ReStore have also done a great job helping get materials and tools put together for the build.

La-Porte-Habitat-911-Park-Streeet-2016_02We are blessed to have so many businesses and contractors supporting us in various ways.

We would like to thank Jim Pressel for selling us the building lot for cost. John Saylor for surveying and putting our stakes in to dig. Pavey Excavating has several roles in this year's house. They are excavating the site, back filling, bringing in the sewer and water, doing the final grade, and supplying stone for the drain tile. Andy at Big C Lumber is supplying the material for the build. Jim at Mid City Supply is supplying the bathtubs, toilets, faucets and fixtures. Doug at H&G Plumbing and Heating will supply the mechanicals Scott Kelley with Lucas Electric has put in the temporary service for electric and will soon put in the main service.

All of our contractors have worked to save Habitat money by either donating their services, labor, and/or materials, or by giving us special pricing. The City of LaPorte has forgiven the cost of the Building Permit, sewer tap, and water tap.

Kudos to Keith, our many community partners and our volunteers for your generosity and enthusiasm.
