Head Coach Dave Griffin announced the hiring of two assistant coaches to the Purdue University Northwest baseball staff. Jon Guzzo will serve as pitching coach while Anthony Agne will direct infielders and baserunning, along with coaching third base.
"I am excited for Jon and Anthony to join our PNW baseball staff," Griffin said. "They are both extremely dedicated and hard-working individuals. I know they will greatly impact our players and team success here at PNW."
Guzzo currently serves as the Owner/Chief Operating Officer of Prestige Travel Ball/Bullpen Sports Facility located in Crestwood, Ill., which he helped launch in 2014. There, he interacts with athletes and teams by leading strength training, camps and developing custom pitching programs. Guzzo spent two seasons on the St. Xavier (IL) baseball staff as an assistant coach where his duties included coordinating workouts and pitching development. As a player, Guzzo pitched professionally for the Gary Railcats in 2009 after a four-year career at Lewis University where he earned all-conference honors.
Agne recently completed his playing career at PNW and served as team captain in each of his three seasons. He started all 90 games in a Pride uniform and led the squad in hits, multi-hit games and doubles during the 2021 campaign. Agne was recognized for success off the field where he was twice named to the All-GLIAC Academic Excellence Team. He also served as a Peer Mentor in the Academic Support Services department within the PNW Athletics Department. Prior to PNW, Agne played two seasons at Joliet Junior College where he garnered all-region first-team honors and Defensive Player of the Year.
PNW will enter its third year as a full member of NCAA Division II and fifth season in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in 2021-22.
