Region Sports Update
The Region is filled with amazing athletes across the board, and while GreatNews.Life doesn’t always get the chance to cover them, we can still highlight their accomplishments this week!
In the Duneland Athletic Conference Girls Basketball standings, there are two teams who really stand out: the Lake Central Indians and the Valparaiso Vikings. Both teams stand at (5-0) in conference play, and if they can keep their respective streaks alive, those teams meet on January 19 in a game that could potentially be the biggest of the season.
Lake Central sits at (17-3)
Valparaiso sits at (12-6)
As for the Boys Basketball standings, it remains the same. Lake Central and Valparaiso sit atop the conference standings after opening week conference victories. Those two teams also play on January 19 in what should be a great conference matchup.
Shoutout to East Chicago Central High School Junior Yamauree Wallace, who hit a game-winning three pointer with 2.1 seconds remaining in a matchup against the Portage Boys Basketball team on Saturday, January 6.
