Greater South Shore Conference Tournament Results for Marquette Boys and Girls Teams

marquette-catholic-logoThe Boys and Girls Varsity Basketball teams each traveled to Lake Station for the opening round of the Greater South Shore Conference Tournament on Tuesday evening with different outcomes. While both games were close throughout, a lack of depth doomed the Lady Blazers as a poor outing in the 4th quarter ultimately doomed the squad, losing 29-42.

The Lady Blazers now wait to see the outcome of the River Forest vs Whiting matchup to see where they will travel for their matchup on Thursday. They will take on the loser of the aforementioned game.

In the Boys Varsity contest, the Eagles looked to take advantage of home court and a young Blazer squad jumping out to an early 9 point lead. But the Blazers fought back and took a 2 point lead into intermission. The second half was hard fought and momentum swung multiple times as both teams made runs. But in the end, the Blazers were too much for the Eagles, winning 69-63. The Blazers were led by Sophmore Ryan Fazekas who had 17 points and 6 rebounds including a perfect 10 for 10 from the charity stripe.

The JV and Varsity will now travel to River Forest On Friday for a matchup against the Ignots. JV will tip off at 5:30 followed by Varsity at 7:00. For up to date scheduling information check out the school's website at:
