Great Day for MQT Blazer Sports

marquette-highThe girls cross country team ran hard tonight against the Lake Station Eagles and North Newton Spartans in the first of two Greater South Shore Conference Tri-meets. Sophomore Lily Giancaspro placed 5th with a time of 25:05.

Senior Anna Grabovac finished 7th setting a new PR with a time of 26:13 Freshman Natalie Cloninger finished 11th with a time if 26:54 and Senior Danielle Syzmkowski finished 14th with a time of 30:20 setting a new personal record.

19 girls finished the race today and it was perfect running weather. The girls next meet is the New Prairie Invite on Thursday, September 5 at 4:30 p.m.

The boys tennis team beat Wheeler tonight 3-2, winning in 2 singles, 3 singles and 2 doubles. The win marks the first time the Blazers have defeated the Bearcats and the first time in 30 matches that the Bearcats lost to a conference opponent. With the win, the Blazers move into first place in he Greater South Shore Conference standings. Boys tennis returns to action on Thursday, September 5 when they travel to River Forest for a matchup against the Ingots. Start time is scheduled for 4:30.

The boys soccer team also beat the Bearcats 3-2. The Blazers jumped out to an early 2-0 advantage behind goals from Jack Disser and Caleb Hernandez. But the Bearcats were able to rally and tie things up with under 15:00 left in the second. A late goal by Isaiah Papineau was the deciding factor as the Blazers defense tightened and they were able to hold on to secure the victory. The boys soccer team returns to action on Saturday, September 7 when they host Hanover Central. Start time is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. The vol

leyball team traveled to Elkhart Christian this evening and were able to secure two victories as both the JV and Varsity won in convincing fashion. The JV won 2-1 while the Varsity won in 3 while getting valuable game experience for everyone on the court. The volleyball team returns to action on Thursday, September 5. JV will kick things off at 5:30, with the varsity to follow.

The Marquette Catholic Girls Golf returned to action tonight, hosting the Bishop Noll Warriors. The Blazers had a strong performance behind Nikki Syzmkowski's career best 50. But in the end, it wasn't enough as the Warriors were able to squeak out the victory, winning by two strokes. The girls golf team returns to action on Friday, September 6, when they travel to North Newton for the Greater South Shore Conference Tournament. Tee time is set for 9:00 a.m.
