Glow Walk Lights Up the Night at the May First Friday Art Walk in Michigan City’s Uptown Arts District

Michigan-City-Mainstreet-AssociationThe Michigan City Mainstreet Association is pleased to present the First Friday Art Walk in the Uptown Arts District on May 1, 2015 from 5pm to 8pm. The Art Walk features local merchants hosting an array of artists and entertainment for free enjoyment for visitors, adults and families alike.

Start the night by stopping by the Michigan City Mainstreet Association’s tent at the corner of 8th and Franklin to get your glow band, then wind your way into all the participating establishments and gather glow sticks from each. Enjoy the creative synergies of the varied artists and at the end attend the free LIVE outdoor Fire Dancer performance. There’s a prize for the “most glowing participant”! The Closet will have face painting and Glow activities for families too.

It’s all about multi-media art this month with paintings of all kinds at all locations. Take the stairs up to F.A.D.A., the Franklin Arts District Artists and visit 6 new studios and partake in the art auction fundraiser. Visit The Framing Station and see the acrylic abstract of Ginny Scott, glimpse Donna Sands watercolors at Darling, or catch Liz Mares and Javier Jimenez communicating strong perception of design at Walnut-Ink Projects.

Take in a mixture of exhibits as the Lubeznik Center shows, “Looking Glass: Exploring Self Portraiture”, Southern Shore Art explores, “Bits, Pieces & Oddities”, and the First United Methodist Church displays, “People, Places & Things”. And don’t miss the life sized replica of Abraham Lincoln’s casket at the Old Lighthouse Museum.

We’ve got more... Is it music that you crave? See Keyboard Jazz Keenan Baxter at the Southern Shore Arts, Dan Moser & Ah Tu and friends at the First United Methodist Church, “Midwest” Mike Sangerman at the Mainstreet Theatre and more. Come on out, groove and GLOW!
