Join Girls on the Run of Northwest Indiana for an amazing night of fun, food, films, and friends, all to support charity. The fifth annual local LUNAFEST® film festival will be held on Thursday, March 12 from 6:00-9:30 p.m. at the Center for Visual and Performing Arts in Munster.
The event will feature eight inspirational short films made by and about women. Prior to the film screening at 7:30 p.m., attendees will enjoy wine, beer, and appetizers while perusing a great variety of silent auction items. Auction prizes include a one week stay at a Florida condo, autographed sports memorabilia, jewelry, framed photography, and gift certificates for local restaurants, salons, and recreational activities, among other great items.
LUNAFEST is dedicated to promoting awareness about women’s issues, highlighting women filmmakers, and bringing women together in our community. The nine international, award-winning short films showcase women as leaders in our society. This year’s films cover topics such as a group of women challenging gender social norms as an all-female mariachi band, a young Muslim American girl who wants to join her new high school’s cheerleading squad, and the life of octogenarian queen of Cornish punk Viva Hamnell.
The proceeds will benefit charities dedicated to the health and happiness of girls and women: Girls on the Run of Northwest Indiana and the Breast Cancer Fund. Girls on the Run provides a life-changing youth development program to over 1,500 third through eighth grade girls across Northwest Indiana each year. The Breast Cancer Fund is an organization dedicated to eliminating the environmental causes of the disease.
Bozovich Wellness Center is the presenting sponsor of this year’s event. Tiffany Bozovich, DC, CKTP, owner, discusses why she supports the event: “Girls on the Run was introduced to me a few years ago, and I've been intrigued ever since. There is no other organization out there that teaches young girls confidence, self-respect, and personal value like they do. I choose to sponsor LUNAFEST because after attending last year, I left feeling empowered and so proud to be a woman.”
Advance sale tickets are $20 and can be purchased through the Girls on the Run of Northwest Indiana website, www.gotrofnwi.org. VIP tickets and student tickets are also available in advance. Tickets are $25 at the door.
LUNAFEST was created by LUNA®, The Whole Nutrition Bar for Women®. The national festival has raised over $656,000 for the Breast Cancer Fund and over $1,250,000 for other women’s non-profit organizations.

About Girls on the Run of Northwest Indiana:
Girls on the Run is a life-changing, non-profit program for girls in the 3rd through 8th grade. Our mission is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. The program culminates with the girls being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5K running event. The goal of the program is to unleash confidence through accomplishment while establishing a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness. The Northwest Indiana Council was established in 2007 and has grown from one team of 16 girls to serving 1,200+ girls across Lake, Porter, La Porte, and Jasper counties each year.
