Girls of the Run of Northwest Indiana to Host Fall 5K Event

Girls-on-the-Run-5K-2012Girls on the Run of Northwest Indiana will be hosting its first GOTR Fall 5K in LaPorte County on November 10, 2012. The event will be open to all Girls on the Run participants as well as community residents.

Girls on the Run is about discovering who you can be and remaining true to yourself. A main component of the program is being healthy and active,” said Jill Schlueter-Kim, Council Director for Girls on the Run of NWI. “One of the milestones for the program is to complete a 5K (3.1 miles).

The GOTR Fall 5K will be on Saturday, November 10, 2012. The event will start and end at Crichfield Elementary School at 336 W. Johnson Road in LaPorte, IN. This will be a non-competitive, untimed event with no awards given.

The emphasis is on finishing the race. The start time will be 10 a.m. The 3.1 mile route will wind through the residential roads behind Crichfield School. Registration may be done online at www.gotrofnwi.com and at Magic Sports on Lincolnway Avenue in LaPorte, IN.

Our goal is to provide the girls with a fabulous, energetic opportunity. Key to that will be volunteers and sponsor organizations. The more community support we can gather, the better the experience will be for the girls,” said Schlueter-Kim. Volunteers will be needed during race day for registration, refreshments and coordination.

In addition, Girls on the Run is a not-for-profit organization, which is committed to never turning a girl away due to inability to pay the minimal participation costs. Thus to help keep costs down, the organization is looking for businesses and individuals willing to serve as event sponsors or to provide post-race food and water donations.
