Get Active, Get Fit Program to Hold Next Prize Drawing

La-Porte-Hospital-Get-Active-Get-FitThe next Get Active, Get Fit prize drawing winner will be announced at the 22nd Annual Holiday at the Pops concert on December 10, 2016. The winner will have his or her choice of prizes: a bike, fitness tracker or sports package.

To be entered in the drawing, a child needs to be active for 30 minutes or more for 14 consecutive or nonconsecutive days. The child or their parent will complete and turn in a 14-day activity log that details the activity that the child participated in each day. Children can complete and enter more than one activity log to have their name entered in the drawing multiple times.

Get Active, Get Fit was created by the La Porte Hospital Foundation (transitioning to the Healthcare Foundation of La Porte) in conjunction with the local park departments as a way to encourage families to be more active and spend more time outdoors. While the activities logged do not have to be from spending time at a local park, one log will count for two entries if more than four activities were completed at a park.

“Activities can be anything from sports practices to family bike rides,” said Maria Fruth, President & CEO of the Healthcare Foundation of La Porte. “Our goal is to encourage kids to develop a habit of being active so we want families to find activities that their kids will enjoy and continue to participate in beyond this program.”

Logs are due by December 2 to ensure entry into the December prize drawing, but any submitted after that date will count as entry into the next drawing the first week of April.

Information about Get Active, Get Fit has been distributed throughout all La Porte, New Prairie, South Central and Westville elementary schools, as well as several local pre-k programs. This information included activity logs and program brochures. Families can also visit the Get Active, Get Fit website hflaporte.org/getfit to learn more about the program or submit an online activity log.

Activity logs are available for download at hflaporte.org/getfit or pick up at the Healthcare Foundation of La Porte, La Porte Hospital Physician Offices, La Porte Hospital (main entrance), La Porte County YMCA locations and La Porte County Library Locations. The activity logs can be submitted at any of those locations or mailed to PO Box 517, La Porte, IN 46352 once completed.

The Holiday at the Pops is a holiday concert that benefits The Foundation Children’s Fund. This fund supports children-focused health and wellness programs such as Get Active, Get Fit and the Lil’ F.I.S.H. Club™.

“We’re excited to announce the drawing winner at the Holiday at the Pops Concert because the funds from that event go directly to the Children’s Fund. Concert attendees will learn more about the impact of the event, and hopefully, more families will learn about the program and be encouraged to enter their child in the next drawing,” said Jane Nelson, Healthcare Foundation of La Porte Board Member.

Holiday at the Pops features the La Porte County Symphony Orchestra directed by Philip Bauman, as well as special guest artists including Cripple Creek, Charles Steck and the North America Brass Company, and the La Porte County Symphony Orchestra Children’s Choir. The concert is held at the La Porte Civic Auditorium and will begin at 7 pm. To learn more, visit holidaypopslaporte.org.
