Fun for Everyone at the Orak Shriner’s Hog Roast, Car, and Bike Show!

Hog roast and cars and bikes, oh my! The Orak Shrine, located at 3848 N. Frontage Road in Michigan City, Indiana, hosted the 35th Annual Hog Roast, Car, and Bike Show today from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

What’s the best thing about the hog roast? According to Ryan Patrick, “Everything!” Patrick is a member of the Orak Shrine. “My favorite part about the roast is everything. The whole family can come out. We have the roast, the car show, and stuff for the kids. Raffles. It’s a mixture of a lot of things.

Putt-putt, log tosses, and other activities keep the kids entertained, while close by rows of shiny cars and motorcycles, new and antique, are on display for all to see. Judges walk through each row carefully making their notes, while owners sit back and enjoy the beautiful sunny summer day.

Ever want to see a police car or fire truck up close? Today was your chance. The local fire and police stations throughout Northwest Indiana brought their fire trucks and law enforcement vehicles. Rows of cop cars and fire trucks were open to the public for an up close and personal viewing.

And don’t forget the food! In addition to roast hog provided by Ruge and Sons Meats, there was Coulter Farms corn-on-the-cob, Fanny Mae ice cream, homemade desserts and side dishes, and elephant ears.

If a little music is what you were after, you were in luck. The Shriner bag pipers and drummers were in attendance and could be heard throughout the event.

The Shriners are known for their philanthropy, most notably through the Shriners Hospitals. All the proceeds today went to the Orak Shrine, who in turn help those in the community.

This event was sponsored in part by Nielsen Mitsubishi Subaru. Nielsen's General Manager Glen Boganwright, is personally involved as a Shriner and works with the Mini Patrol unit of the Orak Shrine in Michigan City. The Orak Shrine is one of many organizations supported by Nielsen Mitsubishi Subaru throughout Northwest Indiana.
