Frontline Foundations in a Race Against Time for Matching Donations

Frontline-FoundationsThe loss of a loved one is all the more tragic when the victim is young. The family is left to sort out the questions with no answers and the loss of a life not fully lived. Steve and Kim Shanta know the pain too well. April 2013 they lost their 19 year old son, Garrett, to an impulsive and tragic suicide.

How do you survive it? “It’s my faith. I can’t imagine how it could be done any other way,” says Kim Shanta. “What helps the most is thinking of others rather than turning inward.” Through Garrett’s death, The Garrett Shanta Memorial Fund was born. Steve and Kim want to make sure that young people struggling know there is hope for a better future. “I’m tired of picking up the newspaper and reading about these overdoses,” comments Steve. “There are Frontline clients who can’t afford to pay for their services. This is our way of supporting them. We have to make sure that resources are available. We want to send the message that people care. We want to make sure that they have what they need so they will keep on trying and not give up.”

Now through December 31st donations made to Frontline Foundations will be matched, dollar for dollar, up to $15,000.00 by The Garrett Shanta Memorial Fund. “This is a perfect opportunity for our community to make their holiday donations twice as impactful,” says Amber Hensell-Hicks, Frontline Executive Director. “Over half of Frontline clients survey below the poverty line. Your donations and The Garrett Shanta Memorial Fund help to make treatment affordable for people who really need our help.”

“When I look at some of these 19 year old kids, I want to make sure that we’ve done all that we can to help them to see what life could look like at 30 or 40 years old,” ends Steve. “Hopefully…help them to see their future.”
