Friendship-Gardens-Honors-Special-Volunteers-2015Friendship Gardens held their Annual Membership Meeting Sunday, February 15, 2015 at Lindo’s Restaurant in Michigan City. Despite horrible weather many brave souls attended the meeting and were welcomed by the toasty fireplace at Lindos. Board President Dr. Richard Houck conducted the meeting. Board Members elected for 2015-2018 terms were: Mary Fox, John Leinweber, Phil Poznanski and Ron Taylor.

Board member Steve Kahn gave an update on the exciting changes coming to Friendship Gardens in 2015. The Gardens will be celebrating its 80 anniversary this year. Special events such as Maple Sugar Camp, Lyric in the Gardens, Native American Day, Polish Fest, Butterfly Program, Shakespeare in the Gardens and Turkey Walk will be celebrated. Several new events and special programs will be announced soon. The new website: www:friendshipgardens.org has been updated and is very successful in highlighting the many splendors of the Garden.

Special recognition of Volunteers was announced with a special presentation of a plaque to Alex and Jude Rakowski, who are 17 year volunteers with the Gardens. They were called ‘gardening angels’ and much deserved this special recognition.

Friendship Gardens prides itself on working with Northwest Indiana and Michiana area to educate, provide walking trails, beautiful outdoor weddings, music and student programs. The Gardens will be open for Maple Sugar Camp on Sunday, March 1 from noon to 4pm. This annual event draws many families to watch maple trees being tapped, taste maple sap and watch the cooking sap over open fires.

Friendship Gardens opens the regular season on Mothers Day, May 10th and will be open Wednesday thru Sunday weekly from 10am to 6pm. They have added 2 more hours to the daily schedule to allow more visitors to come enjoy the Gardens. Dogs on a leash are welcome at the Gardens.
