Beginning January 1st, The La Porte County Public Library is offering a new service that gives you the ability to download music for free. La Porte County Public Library has teamed up with Freegal, a downloadable music service that serves libraries across the country. All a patron needs is a valid library card and a PIN.
Freegal offers access to about 3 million songs, including Sony Music’s catalog of legendary artists. In total the collection is comprised of music from over 10,000 labels with music that originates in over 60 countries. There is no software to download, and there are no digital rights management (DRM) restrictions. Access to Freegal is limited to patrons of subscribing libraries, such as the La Porte County Public Library. There is a download limit of three songs per week. Again, the downloads are free and permanent. Freegal also has a free mobile app for any Apple device and Android phones and tablets.
