Free COVID-19 testing coming to La Porte in July

LA PORTE (July 1, 2020) – A new COVID-19 testing site will set up shop in La Porte for the month of July, according to Mayor Tom Dermody.

The testing, starting July 1 and running through the end of the month, will take place at the Civic Auditorium and is completely free to anyone who lives or works in Indiana. Though the number of coronavirus cases in LaPorte County have been trending downwards, Dermody said having access to free testing is critical as neighboring states begin to see a rise in their numbers.

“With restrictions loosened and many people back to work, it can be easy to forget the gravity of COVID situation,” Dermody said. “However, the pandemic is far from over, and we all must continue to do our part to prevent the spread of the virus. Testing plays a huge role in that effort, which is why we are so glad to see a free testing site in our community.”

The City of La Porte worked closely with the Healthcare Foundation of LaPorte County as well as LaPorte County Emergency Management Agency Director Larry Butcher to bring the testing site to the community.

Testing is available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., but the testing site will be closed Friday, July 3 in observance of Independence Day. Though Hoosiers will not be charged for testing, individuals with health coverage should bring that information with them. Those looking to register can do so online at https://LHI.Care/CovidTesting or by phone at 888-634-1116.
