Rotary-fills-holiday-tables-of-St-Clare-Health-Clinic-clientsThe Merrillville Rotary Club, for the fifth consecutive year, made Thanksgiving and the holiday season happier for numerous area families recently by donating 50 turkeys to St. Clare Health Clinic in Crown Point, which were in turn distributed to clinic clients. Club members raised approximately $1,000 to purchase the food from the Strack and Van Til Broadway store in the city, which provided them at cost. Shown receiving a donation from club president Tom Kuhn, right, is Miguel Perez, of DeMotte.

He was accompanied by family members, from left, Maria Perez and Wendy Day and her children, Adalynn, 2, and Julian Day, 4. Behind the family, are, from left, Julie Mallers, family nurse practitioner and clinic manager; and Rotary members Ken Buczek, Jim Larsen, who also is a member of the Franciscan Alliance Foundation board; Ana Grandfield and Laura Mannion, who also is the foundation’s development director. Larsen said the club chose the clinic because of the free services it provides the needy, calling the effort, “a Rotary kind of thing to do.” Since 1996, St. Clare has offered primary health care and other community services to underprivileged residents in six area counties. The clinic is under the umbrella of Franciscan St. Anthony Health - Crown Point. For more information, call (219) 663-2160.
