Franciscan Health welcomes first babies of new year

Franciscan Health Family Birth Centers welcomed the first babies of 2025 on New Year’s Day.

Curtis Lee Harris III was born to Tiara and Curtis Harris II of Lynwood, Ill. at 9:43 a.m. at Franciscan Health Olympia Fields, making him the first baby born at the hospital in 2025. He weighed 6 pounds 3 ounces and was 19.5 inches long. He is the first baby born to the Harris family, who did not know the baby’s gender until he was born.

Tiara Harris was due on Jan. 13. The Harris’ were married on Jan. 2, 2024, but had hoped to be married on New Year’s Day as the first couple married of the new year.

“I joked that it would be just our luck that this will be the first baby born of the new year and he was,” Curtis Harris II said.

Christopher Moore was born to Patricia Brooks and Charles Moore, Sr. of Cedar Lake at 11:06 a.m. at Franciscan Health Crown Point, making him the first baby born at that hospital in 2025. He weighed 7 pounds, 13 ounces and measured 19 inches long.

Brooks said she was due Jan. 4 and planned to be induced on Jan. 2, but baby Christopher had other plans.

“I was really surprised, but it’s kind of cool to have a baby on New Year’s Day,” Brooks said.

Big brother, Charles Moore, Jr., 9, wasn’t so sure how he felt about all the fuss over his new baby brother.

“I don’t really know,” he said.

Families with the distinction of having the first baby born in the new year at the Franciscan Health Family Birth Centers receive a gift basket containing items to help parents during their first weeks at home with their newborn.
