Franciscan Health: Walkers Make Strides Against Heart Disease

Franciscan-Health-Walkers-Make-Strides-Against-Heart-Disease-01Some 100 participants representing Franciscan Health, in addition to 10 supporters from Crown Point High School, gathered before hitting the trails at the Lake County Fairgrounds Sept. 17 for the county’s leg of the American Heart Association’s Northwest Indiana Heart Walk.

Franciscan-Health-Walkers-Make-Strides-Against-Heart-Disease-02The event, and one planned for Porter County Sept. 24, are expected to raise more than $500,000 to help fight heart disease, the nation’s number one cause of death; and stroke, the fifth-leading cause. Heart attack survivors also were honored before walkers headed off on their choices of one-, two-, or three-mile treks. A balloon launch also paid tribute to those who have both beaten and succumbed, to the diseases.
