Franciscan Health to host blood drives in Michigan City and Chesterton

In response to a severe blood shortage during the COVID-19 pandemic, Franciscan Health is hosting several blood drives in the coming weeks.

Franciscan Health Michigan City will host two Versiti Blood Center drives on July 20 and Aug. 10, while the Franciscan Emergency Center Chesterton will host an American Red Cross drive on July 22.

The Versiti blood drives will be 10AM to 4PM on Monday, July 20 and 1 to 6PM on Monday, Aug. 10. A mobile coach will be in the parking lot of Franciscan Health Michigan City at 3500 Franciscan Way.

Appointments are encouraged and can be scheduled by going online at versiti.org/IL or by calling 1-800-7TO-Give (1-800-786-4483) and choosing your preferred time. Walk-ins are also welcome. Identification is required, and donors must wear a mask

Versiti Blood Center is the primary blood provider to Franciscan Health. All donations go to more than 70 hospitals in Indiana and Illinois.

The American Red Cross drive will be 9AM to 3PM, Wednesday, July 22 in conference room A of the Franciscan Emergency Center Chesterton at 770 Indian Boundary Road. All donations will be screened for COVID-19 antibodies. Donations are by appointment only due to social distancing requirements. Make an appointment online at redcrossblood.org/give.
