Four Winds Casino to host hiring events in South Bend and New Buffalo locations in November

Four Winds Casino is holding two hiring events this fall in South Bend, Ind. and New Buffalo, Mich. The job fairs will be held on November 16 in South Bend, and November 30 in New Buffalo.

Torie Winchester, vice president of human resources for Four Winds Casino, began working at Four Winds in 2007 and continued to work up the chain until becoming the vice president in 2017. After working for the company for almost 15 years, Winchester is proud to work at Four Winds and loves what the casino has to offer employees.

“What I often tell individuals is when you're able to look at Four Winds Casino as a career opportunity versus a job is when you really begin to see the opportunities that are available to you. What I love about the company is the commitment from our ownership and our senior executive management team to our employees. It goes beyond anything I've ever seen in an organization before. Our company has such a commitment to growing and developing our talent in house,” said Winchester.

As a success story for the company herself, Winchester is proof that employees can look forward to a prosperous career with Four Winds Casino.

“We want to look from within to promote, and we want to give employees all of those tools to promote them and better prepare them for their positions. That's why I like working at Four Winds. There is such a commitment to our employees and our employees' successes,” said Winchester.

Both the New Buffalo and South Bend properties will have job fairs this fall, and Four Winds is looking to fill positions from entry level and beyond. Both properties are hiring for positions in the food and beverage department and facilities department. This includes the environmental services engineers or casino housekeepers, maintenance department, security department, and surveillance departments. The casino also opened table games at the South Bend property and will have positions in the table games departments. Representatives from all departments will be present at the job fairs.

“We often like representation from all departments when candidates are coming in because we would like them to have the ability to explore all opportunities at once,” said Winchester.

The job openings change weekly and go live externally to the Four Winds Casino website every Monday. Four Winds Casino is excited to find the right candidates to fill the many open positions.

“We're looking for candidates who are individuals that are excited about working with the public, comfortable with a fast-paced environment, and comfortable with being in hospitality. We are looking for someone that has guest service,” said Winchester. “I encourage an applicant to apply online in advance. Completing the application will help expedite the process for hiring. We have very robust job descriptions that list out all requirements and qualifications if there are any special needs for a position.”

Potential applicants will be happy to note that Four Winds Casino offers great benefits and compensation. The casino has a $15 an hour minimum wage for the non-tipped positions. Tipped positions start at $6.25 and up, depending upon the position. In addition to that compensation, full time employees are offered the following benefits: medical, vision, dental, long-term disability, short term disability, retirement and matching options, and paid time off.  Part time employees also enjoy paid time off and employee paid vision insurance. If quarterly goals are met, employees can also participate in a quarterly bonus. Winchester also highlights the company’s Employee Appreciation Day.

“That event is quarterly, where we give out wonderful gifts and a free meal in our employee dining room,” said Winchester. “This shows our ownership, and our senior management is appreciative of our employees.”

In an effort to give back to their employees and continue building up the community at large, Four Winds Casino also offers a tuition reimbursement program for full time employees who have worked more than six months.

Four Winds Casino works to support its employees in becoming successful on the job and in the Region, which is also evident through the casino’s philanthropic efforts. Four Winds Casino works with many local charities, participates in backpack drives, volunteers giving local residents in need holiday meals, and more to give back to the community around the locations it serves.

The company is also owned by the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians and has a commitment to growing and providing economic development and sustainability to its tribal citizens. Four Winds Casino is proud of its Tribal Placement and Development Program, which focuses on placement of tribal citizens into appropriate positions. The program also focuses on career development through professional development with classes on site to better prepare citizens for future opportunities. For tribal citizens and Regional residents alike, Four Winds Casino has a lot to offer potential applicants.

“I would encourage anyone who is looking for a career change, entering the workforce, or re-entering the workforce after the pandemic to apply. Four Winds Casino really is the place to work. We are dedicated to our employees and dedicated to that commitment. If you're unsure about whether Four Winds is the right place for you, come to one of these job fairs and have the opportunity to talk to a human resources representative or a hiring manager about Four Winds and what we have to offer.”

Four Winds is currently offering a sign on bonus of $1,000 for select positions. Four Winds also has an employee referral program, where the current employee receives $1,000 and the referred employee receives $500 in addition to any sign-on bonuses received.
