Foreign Language Rivalry at Michigan City High School

Foreign-Language-RivalryMichigan City High School foreign language students took part in the Foreign Language Olympics last Friday, an annual tradition that pits MCHS scholars studying Spanish, French, Japanese, and German against one another in nine events.

Shown here are Mohammad "Mo Mo" Hakim (representing the Japanese Club), who was victorious in the Table Tennis finals -- winning a final-round match up against Josh Palmer (German Club). Hakim's win resulted in an overall three-way tie for this year's Olympics, with students from the Japanese, German, and Spanish clubs sharing championship honors.

Other events in the friendly international competition included the Tortilla Toss, a Chopstick Race, the Rootbeer Chug, the Tour de France (a scooter race), the Dance Citron (a dance-off in which students balance a lemon on their foreheads), the Tomato Challenge (nerf dodgeball), the Coaster Flip, and a Soccer Kick.
